That already is the position of the Orthodox Church (unlike the Roman 'Catholic' Church), there are no explicit rules in regard to these issues.
Generally speaking the Church may say 'no' to abortion, divorce, stem cell research, cloning and the like, but each case is always judged on its own merits and on an individual basis. There are no blanket rules or dogmatised statements, only guidelines by which each diocese bishop is to make his judgements.

The same even applies to the Church Canons, they are not 'Canon Laws' as they are usually mistakenly called, they are guidelines which can either be applied strickly or leniently as a bishop sees fit for the edification of the diocese under his care (even though strict application is the norm).

Aghaby Fr. Antonios,
If I may, the church is the bride, her groom is God. Until the woman hears from her man, she shall remain silent. But the wise mother always advice her children: listen to your daddy. And The Father, gives advice to each and every individual of His children according to her/his case.

Christianity, unlike many other religions, is not a big flow chart of: "if condition then action" statements. Christ didn't teach the disciples what to do in every single situation of life, rather, a spirit. Therefore, the His bride should not attempt to do something her Groom didn't do. She should only make sure we are in the fellowship of God the Holy Spirit, and we will be fine.

I guess I am simply saying: church should NOT have a general position for any topic, but should lead each of her children independently.
